Your Tour was a project conducted as part of Design with Research, a 12 month Knowledge Exchange project which was supported by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and coordinated by the Bartlett at University College London and the V&A museum in London.

The Your Tour application was an exploration of the possibilities location aware applications will offer museums as indoor location technology improves. The Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts in Norwich designed by the architects Norman Foster and Wendy Cheesman, features a collection spanning 5,000 years of human creativity. The curatorial intent of the exhibition is to layout the objects as if there were a living room with few descriptions, allowing the objects to be appreciated in a pure form. It creates a unique space and refreshing take on curation but suffers from low visitor dwell times.

The Your Tour application used an openFrameworks application to locate visitors in the exhibition and update a native iPad app the visitors were carrying. The app which provided more context about the objects the user was near. The iPad app was designed to feature no UI to maintain the curatorial spirit of the exhibition. The system logged various metrics for the research team to evaluate the impact of this digital intervention.

My involvement was the application design and development in collaboration with David Di Duca, Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, UCL, AHRC and the V&A museum.
